It's Super Taranta Time!

This weekend we went back to Detroit to see Gogol Bordello - one of the best groups... on the face of the earth...ever. It was an amazing concert, and an overall great evening!

Before the show, we ate at the Majestic Cafe and saw the two girls in the band and later noticed that Eugene Hutz, the lead singer, was sitting at the bar. We told our waiter to buy him a drink from us. When Eugene got his drink, he turned around and waved to us. We wanted to talk to him, but he was busy talking to someone else, so we really didn't want to interrupt.

Next, it was off to the concert. We were able to stand close enough to see really well, but not so close that we were crushed by crowd surfers.

Here are some pictures from the concert, although they didn't come out very good.

After the concert, we waited around for the band, and it paid off. Andy got signatures of most of the band members on a Gogol poster (suitable for framing... and it will be framed). We got to talk with Sergei, the fiddle player, for quite a while in the parking lot behind the theater. I even got my picture with Eugene! He probably wasn't as thrilled as I was.

After the concert I contemplated the hot, smoke-filled room, all the thrown beer that ended up on us, and sweaty folks smearing against us when they walked by in the tight crowd. I realized that all these things were worth the awesome concert and the chance to meet some of the people in one of our favorite bands! We can always count on an insane show with unmatched energy when we see Gogol Bordello. One of the best things, too, was that this was our friend Jen's first concert of any kind ever, and we hope her introduction to show-going was memorable.

Tour de Food

Because much of our New Orleans Vacation centered around food and drinking, I'll share all our pictures that have to do with each of these great activities.
