South Carolina Barackin' and Rollin' (Cheezy, I know, but it's funny)
Over the MLK weekend, I went to Columbia South Carolina along with three other faithful volunteers from Columbus. We stayed in Jill's cousin's cottage on the lake and it was so beautiful, we debated if we should come back to Ohio or not.
We arrived on a Friday night, spent all day Saturday knocking on doors to identify Obama supporters. It was pouring rain, but we went out anyway, garnering support for our candidate. The support for Obama was overwhelming and at the end of the day, even though all my clothes were soaking wet, I couldn't really complain. It was amazing to see volunteers from all over the country - some as far as Texas and New Hampshire - down in South Carolina, coming together for a common cause. I even saw someone I went to Cabrini with from kindergarten to 8th grade in Columbia for the weekend as well! It was crazy!
Sunday we spent the day flyering cars at churches to invite people to the rally with the man himself later that night. After flyering, we went to the rally and wonder of wonders, we saw the campaign staffer who organized the Ohio rally and he let us in through the side before most people so we could be in front! The rally was awesome and very moving and inspiring.
The reason why I like Obama so much is that he really inspires and challenges us, the American people, to work along side of him for change. While he does have a way with words, he is not just a "motivational speaker" as some people accuse him of being. He has great judgment and also understands what it is like to be a normal person. With candidates who have similar views on the issues, we really need to ask ourselves "who is actually going to get this work done?" Without a doubt, that person is Barack Obama.
